Choosing an interior design studio for a Lake Como home

Three practices compared through published references. Keep local evidence, design concepts, restoration and interior design roles distinct.

Picture an evening at home: dinner ends, some guests move to the sitting room and someone else wants a quiet place to read. How should those rooms connect? For a home on Lake Como, compare published interiors through the relationships you want in your own property.

An interior appointment may sit alongside architectural renovation or work already entrusted to another team. Establish which rooms and decisions the studio would develop before deciding whom to appoint.

AD’ Design Studio publishes this editorial selection and is included below. The profiles appear alphabetically. Studio bases, areas served and project locations are identified separately.

Separate the interior question from the building question

For a house by the lake, begin with the relationship between the rooms and the setting you want to enjoy. A dining space connected to a salon is a different proposition from a private room designed for retreat. The design needs to establish those relationships before a collection of finishes can become an interior.

AD’s private residence design in Phnom Penh is an overseas reference for that work: the dining room opens towards the main salon, and the bar-wall drawings develop the meeting of stone, metal and light. KOI Villa offers a different type of evidence, with AD acting in owner-side design direction alongside the appointed design team. Neither example should be read as proof of a completed AD home on Lake Como.

The local profiles also require careful reading. A practice’s residential offer, a retail reference, a façade restoration and a residential concept answer different questions. The labels below keep those distinctions visible. A photograph can explain atmosphere; the stated scope establishes what the practice contributed; a design-phase project does not prove completed construction.

This is a small selection for comparing those contributions, rather than a comprehensive survey of homes on the lake. If the deciding question is local residential delivery, a comparable local home and its documented role remain necessary evidence. If it is interior design alongside an appointed architect, examine the room relationships and bespoke work relevant to that role.

AD’ Design Studio: complete interiors for a private home

AD’ is an Italian interior architecture and design studio available for commissions on Lake Como. The private villa design in Phnom Penh, Cambodia connects interior architecture, material design and bespoke furniture within a complete residential brief. The dining room opens towards the main salon; published drawings develop the meeting of stone, metal and light in its bar wall.

KOI Villa in Phuket, Thailand provides another residential reference, with dining, lounge and bedroom settings related to the outdoor spaces. AD’ worked closely with the owner, guiding the interior design direction alongside the appointed design team. The two references show different contributions: developing an interior and its bespoke details, or guiding design decisions alongside an appointed team.

Through Interior Architecture & Design, AD’ develops the complete interior with your appointed architect and specialists. Discuss room planning, materials, lighting, furnishings and the details to develop for your home.

Bertolini Studio: architecture and interior design

Bertolini Studio is based in Colico, on Lake Como, and describes architecture and interior design for residential work, new construction and renovation. Bertolini’s studio website.

Its public Projects gallery includes Artistic Parfumery in Morbegno, where flowing curtains form backdrops for the fragrance display and lighting shapes the setting. This is a retail reference to the studio’s use of materials and atmosphere. The accessible gallery also includes a restaurant and a law office; a comparable home reference would need to be requested before using those examples to assess a villa commission.

Giorgio Veronelli Architecture: interiors and renovation

Giorgio Veronelli Architecture is based in Como and describes architecture, interiors and renovation work on Lake Como, in Italy and abroad. Its studio and portfolio include Villa Bolza Scanavino in Menaggio and Luxury Villa Como Lake, with different kinds of work documented.

Villa Bolza is a façade-restoration reference. The studio worked with specialist restorer Laura De Nardi, using investigations of the historic finishes to guide the colour and surface treatment.

Luxury Villa Como Lake is identified as Design Phase. Its curved residential concept connects living areas with garden, terrace and pool, and opens the interior towards the lake. One case demonstrates conservation of an existing building’s surfaces; the other explores a new home’s relationship with its landscape.

Compare area, reference and proposed work

The location of a practice and the location of a project are different pieces of information. Compare both with the scope proposed for your home.

Bring the property information into the brief

Share the location, property type, rooms involved and the plans or survey available. Explain the way you want to live there and which elements you want to preserve. Identify the architect, engineers and other specialists already appointed.

Discuss the property’s condition, access for surveys and the information needed before design work begins. Ask who will lead each package and how local requirements will be checked for the proposed work. The guide to choosing an interior design studio helps compare the appointment rather than the image alone.

If you are considering AD’, share the property, its current stage and the interior you want to create. Include the rooms, plans available and your appointed team. The studio can discuss the complete interior design scope for your home.
