An apartment renovation in Milan can begin with very different needs. You may want a new layout, a complete interior or a studio to develop the rooms alongside an architect already appointed. Build your shortlist around that work.

This selection brings together five studios to consider for a project in Milan. Compare their published work with the rooms, design scope and level of involvement you need.

AD’ Design Studio publishes this guide and is included in the selection. The profiles appear alphabetically.

Read the apartment before choosing a style

For an apartment, a complete interior begins with the choices the existing rooms allow. An open connection may bring dining and conversation together; a separate room may give work or rest the privacy it needs. Retained doors, floors and furniture can become the starting point for the new design. These are different briefs, even when their reference images share a palette.

AD’s private residence design in Phnom Penh provides a room-scale and a detail-scale reference. Breakfast dining sits beside the windows; the main dining room opens towards the salon. The published bar-wall drawings then show how stone, metal and light meet within that interior. The design is identified as a Cambodian residential reference, rather than a Milan commission.

Read the Milan projects below with your own starting condition in mind. Identify what should remain, what arrangement should change and which room needs a distinct atmosphere. That will help you distinguish a practice whose work interests you from a project whose particular decisions relate to your home.

The selection considers published interior work, stated services and identifiable contributions. Project locations remain explicit: local references and a studio’s availability for Milan work are different kinds of evidence.

AD’ Design Studio: full-service residential interiors

AD’ is an Italian interior architecture and design studio available for commissions in Milan and internationally. In its private villa design in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, breakfast dining sits beside the windows and the main dining room opens towards the salon. Published drawings develop the junctions between stone, metal and light in the dining-room bar wall. Room relationships and bespoke details form parts of the same residential design.

Through Interior Architecture & Design, we develop the agreed rooms from spatial planning and materials to lighting, furnishings and construction details. The proposal defines the stages, drawings, specifications and coordination with your appointed architect and specialists.

If your design team is already developing the interior, Design Direction can give AD’ an agreed role in its decisions and reviews. We can work directly with you or through your family office or representative.

Dimorestudio — Milano Indipendenza

Milano Indipendenza appears in Dimorestudio’s residential portfolio. In co-founder Emiliano Salci’s own apartment, the entrance is furnished as a room, leading into connected living spaces. Dark aubergine walls, rugs and pieces from different periods give those rooms depth; softer tones distinguish the private bedrooms. The reference shows how circulation, furnishings and colour can give shared spaces and private rooms different characters.

The studio’s design commissions are distinct from Dimoremilano’s products.

Dome Milano — Corso Magenta

Dome Milano’s interior portfolio includes Corso Magenta in Milan, an apartment where existing features became the starting point for the new interior.

Dark timber double doors and herringbone parquet inform the rhythm of new wall and ceiling mouldings. White and pale grey sit with Carrara marble, while library-pattern wallpaper gives the bedrooms a private character. The project brings retained materials and new finishes into the same composition. It offers a reference for a home whose existing doors, floors or proportions are part of what you want to keep.

Marcante–Testa — Citylife

The Citylife apartment in Milan appears in Marcante–Testa’s residential portfolio. Ceiling frames and curtains define dining, conversation and gathering areas without enclosing every activity in a separate room. Colour distinguishes those settings, and bespoke elements hold specific artworks selected with the clients. The terraces extend the home with outdoor dining and seating.

This is a reference for a brief shaped by a collection, changing family activities and the relationship between indoor and outdoor rooms.

Spagnulo & Partners — Navigli apartment

The Navigli apartment in Milan shows Spagnulo & Partners adapting a former warehouse with limited daylight.

Bedrooms occupy the darker ground floor; living spaces sit above, lit through new rooflights. The existing stone staircase remains, while fabric-covered partitions accompany the transition between levels. The roof becomes a terrace, connecting the interior with the courtyard and sky. Here the arrangement of daily life follows the available light and the building’s existing structure.
